Thank you, I went through it and found the information I needed to remove them :tazz:

I edited your last post to remove the txt file after I looked through it because it has product keys in there and we don't want anyone getting a hold of those.

We're going to remove all of the Sonic products first because we may run in to problems with MS Office, but we'll have to see.

Go to Start > Run and paste in the following line:

MsiExec.exe /I{B12665F4-4E93-4AB4-B7FC-37053B524629}

Click OK.

The uninstaller for the program should start.
Click Next.
Choose Remove, click Next.
Follow the rest of the prompts on the screen, if it tells you to reboot don't reboot yet.

Do the same for each of the following - one at a time:

MsiExec.exe /I{075473F5-846A-448B-BCB3-104AA1760205}
MsiExec.exe /I{AB708C9B-97C8-4AC9-899B-DBF226AC9382}
MsiExec.exe /I{30465B6C-B53F-49A1-9EBA-A3F187AD502E}
MsiExec.exe /I{6675CA7F-E51B-4F6A-99D4-F8F0124C6EAA}

Please let me know if you run into any problems with this.

Reboot after that last one and let me know how it went, then we will attempt to remove MS office. :)

Well, it got rid of Microsoft Office. However, ctfmon.exe has returned to my startup list in msconfig and continues to run in the background. I *thought* this file was a part of Office (I looked it up online and several websites said it was a part of office) but I guess not. Any ideas?

Hello Pooky :tazz:

When you uninstalled MS Office it started with the uninstall (no it's technically not a part of MS Office - it's an operating system file that only starts with MS Office and it stays running in the background even after office is closed). Since Office is gone you shouldn't have to worry about it starting again after we remove it with HJT once more.

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following item and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

Close HiJackThis.

Reboot and let me know how things are going.

OK, it's no longer checked in msconfig, but it is still listed. Is it supposed to still be listed there? Or should it be gone completely?

Ok, that's just weird, HJT should remove it from startup completely. No worries, we'll remove it manually.

Download remctfmon.zip from here: Attached File  remctfmon.zip   217bytes   74 downloads
Unzip it to your desktop.
Reboot into Safe Mode.
Go into the unzipped remctfmon folder and double-click remctfmon.reg
When asked if you want to merge with the registry click YES.

Reboot your computer and it should be gone from msconfig.

Nope, still listed in msconfig. It's unchecked, but still listed.

After reading about the file, it sounds as if it stays in msconfig permanently and that it can only be disabled but will still be unchecked in msconfig. We can try to disable it permanently (but will still be in msconfig) but since you no longer have Office, then it should not start anymore, because it only starts with Office products once disabled. It's a system component so we cannot delete the file.

To disable it permanently, please follow these steps (it will still be in msconfig, but it won't start anymore):

Go to Start > Run and paste in the following line:

regsvr32 /u msimtf.dll

Click OK.

A small box will open saying unregistering dll was successful, click OK.

Do the same for this line:

regsvr32 /u msctf.dll

Then go to Start > Control Panel.
Double-click Regional and Language Options
Click the Languages tab.
Click the Details button.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under "System Configuration," check the box that says "Turn off advanced text services"
Click Apply, ok, Apply, Ok.

That should disable the bugger permanently :tazz:

Do you have any other problems?
