Hi all,,,
Problem,,,, when i click on,,,,,
1/ recycle bin
2/ my documents
3/ my pics
3/ my computer,,,, the page opens up as a 1/4 page size window.

Funnily enough,,, my music folder opens up as normal full size page.
I have had this problem for some time now, and have posted before to find a solution.
Gerryf, gave me some advice and it appeared to work,, but,, being away from my computer for a few days and have now come back to the same problem. Its really annoying.
I have tried dragging the page edges to maximum,,, fine,,, go back 2 mins later,,its 1/4 size again.
Have tried double clicking on the top of the pages,, fine,, open up fully,,, go back 2 mins later,, opens up as 1/4 size page again.
Have been into the folder options time and time again,,,tried with "remember page settings checked,, unchecked,, you name it,, i have tried it,,,, I have set the defaults,, tried settings and applied them to all folders,,, same story follows 2 mins later.
When i have expanded one of these small pages its fine,, but as soon as i close it it will revert back to a small page whenever it is opened next. Weird,,,,,
the only xp window that opens as i want it to is my music folder.
It always opens full page, and the folder veiw is a list. Click on an artist on the list and it opens up into thumbnails, just as i want it. WHY,, does my music folder behave as it should ,, but all the others named above repeatadly do the same small page thing. ??????

Spybot,,Adaware and Norton scans all have come up clean, so i doubt if i have a virus or malware attack.

Would it be of any benefit doing a windows repair from the xp disc ??? something is obviously missing in the registry !!!
Would aprreciate any further advice,,, the simple solutions are not solving this problem.
cheers,, kev.

Hi Gerryf,,,
Have done exactly as you said, word for word.
After re booting, ALL the said folders now open up as 1/4 size pages,,,
including my music folder,, which was the only 1 that behaved previously.

What next ?????

Have you now changed the size, then closed the window? Then opened it again?

you can now delete them. They were corrupt keys. Always back up keys before editing so you can return to where you were if a problem arises.

I was not certain that the keys were corrupt, so I did not want you to just delete them willy nilly

Thanks Gerry,,
Dont suppose you have any idea what it was that corrupted the files in the first place ???
Makes me wonder if any other files are corrupted as well ?

I am very careful surfing the net,, have all my malware scans and antivirus updated weekly, and run them at least weekly as well. Dont go to any sites that are suspicious,,,,, very strange.

Anyway,,, many thanks once again. kev.

not really....

understand that the registry is a file that is constantly being written to and read from. A crashed program can corrupt a key if it crashes in the middle of this process, so perhaps that is it.
