dsenette: Thanks a ton for all your help and willingness. I don't know why all the weird stuff happens to me but I appreciate you sticking through it.

Let's hope this repair works

i'm gonna blame it on some form of weird radiation...or maybe you've got really bad acidic gas or something...have you eaten alot of chili lately?

*happy dance*

It's working. The display is screwed up and norton had a problem but I'm pretty sure a reinstall of norton and a driver update will get that back working.

I think it was Dave who fixed it.. I put on some Dave Matthews Band music so I didn't start punching walls and it started working fine...

yeah 2 mostly working computers..

the first one is just really really really slow. Everything is there but it takes forever to load apps or browser windows. I can't even do updates because it's so slow. I'm really thinking about just starting that one over from scratch.

oh I need to start it back up and see what it said when I tried to activate the software. It said something couldn't be found. Lemme check that out real quick like.

once again thanks for your help!

well.. windowsupdate site won't come up. It says it's loaded but the page is blank. I found some cookies on here that aren't from me being on the computer. SO I have to find out who was on it and have a little talk with them I guess.

still no luck getting the windows update page to show up. The page says it's loaded (no errors on page or script error) but nothing.. just white.

Step 1
Are you getting a specific error message?
If so, go here and check it

http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us

If no error, go to step 2

Step 2

Start >Run, type
regsvr32 jscript.dll
<enter>

try windows update. Still not working? Try

Start >Run, type
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
<enter>

try windows update. Still not working? Try

step 3

Download and install the following

http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

the other computer...had to have a reason for it's inital failure...most of those failures pointed to hardware....but...checkdisk worked fine....i'd still suspect the ram to be honest....IF you want to you can always format and start over...since you already backed up the data....though if it is hardware...format reinstall wont help much...
