Hi,

Listen quick question. I have recently fdisked and formated my c: drive and everything is working great except for my windows sounds. I am running win98se. I can play cd's no trouble but have no windows sounds or messenger sounds. When i try to test windows sounds it give me the error that my sound card may be in use by another program. The card is installed. The drivers are working, and there appears to be no conflicts under resources. I have taken everything off and reinstalled to no avail. When I open my volume controls nothing is muted, however two bars under Wave balance are green.

Under devicemanager it shows creative awe64 16bit Audio (sb16 compatible) and creative awe64 wavetable midi (awe32 compatible)

under multimedia awe64 wav out (220) is the preferred device and audio devices are creative soundblaster 16 plug and play

Please help if you can.
I have read over some posts not only here but else where on the web and can't find a thread that matches or if it does match gives no resolution.

thank you

i would try testing that sound card in another computer or unistalling the drivers, taking out the sound card, putting the sound card back in, then install the drivers, see if that works (i had a similar problem like this and doing one of these steps should clear it up) in your device manager make sure theres no exclamation points or question marks near your audio devices

I have tried taking it out and reinstalling the drivers. It plays cd's great, however it just wont play windows sounds. It says the card is in use. There are no exclamation points in device manager. everything looks okay.
