Hi

i am tring to set up my printer on my new computer. it is a HP Laserjet 4 printer on a Dell desktop running win XP home. it has a serial port comeing out of the printer. i had to get a cable to switch it too a usb port connection. i installed the disc that came with the cable and downloaded the drivers from HP for the printer and i still can't get it to print. i know the printer itself works....i used it on my old computer.

in the control panel for the printers it shows that the hp laserjet is the printer that i am useing...it has a check mark above the printer icon.

iam not sure what i am doing wrong.

please help....thanks
Alan

Looks like the final step is to assign a Port to Printer - & because it is a Serial Port – The default would be a [Com Port] – but because the Dell probably does not have one – You can select the – [Virtual Port]

(1) – Open [Printers] Folder
(2) – Right Click [HP Laserjet 4] Icon
(3) – Open –[Properties] – Page
(4) – Click [Ports] Tab on top of Page
(5) – Scroll down Page – Check – [Virtual Port for HP Laserjet 4]
(6) – Click – [OK] to close – [Printers] Folder

Hopefully you can now print –

See if Printer is Offline – or Paused

(1) – Open Printers Folder
(2) – Right Click – [HP Laserjet 4] Icon
(3) – Is [Use Printer Off Line] Checked or [Pause Printing] Checked
(4) – Uncheck if any are checked
