PC won't start... because of my DVD burner !

well, not exactly...I think your boot.ini file is screwed up and it is somehow pointing at your dcvd drive (which might actually be working) instead of your harddrive.

Using a windows xp cd, we can enter the recovery console and rebuild or add an entry into your boot.ini file so we can enter windows and fix things properly

Hi Gerryf,

Just to let you know that the problem was fixed Friday afternoon... I brought my PC at a local computer store to show them the error message. They (had never seen this before and wanted to reformat the HD at first!!!). they also implied the DVD burner problem and the OS that wouldn't start were coincidental (I truly doubt it).
But to make a long story short, after I told them reformatting was not an eventuality I even considered... they managed to reboot the PC. Once home I ran a complete CheckDisk and everything is (/seems to be) in order. The only thing I didn't check yet is whether the DVD burner burns (it reads ok).
