When I use Start --> Run --> and type in commands like cmd or regedit, I get this error:



I checked the Windows Directory, and regedit is there and works.

I just recovered from a virus/spyware attack and I'm not sure what to do.

Usually a problem like this happends (No cmd and regedit) when a certain virus has not been cleaned proply. Virus scan can not find these sort of problems.

goto >run and type "cmd.exe" (Note: Exactly as I have wrote it)

Did you remove the malware yourself, or did you go through our Malware Forum to help you remove it?

Don't want to be tweaking on an infected machine...we'll get nowhere fast.

cmd.exe and regedit.exe works.

I cleaned it myself, I used Ad-Aware SE Personal with updated defs. full scan on system restart [so none of the files were in use] and Spybot Search & Destroy with updated defs scan. Then I used Windows Defender [Beta 2] with updated Defs. Full scan.

I also used CWShredder [updated] but it found nothing.

Should I post a hijackthis log?

020 Looks suspicious, it says it is used by VX2 and some other things. Spybot detected and 'fixed' VX2. I also used the VX2 cleaner tool for Ad Aware and it said my system was clean.

The reason you can open regedit by typing "regedit.exe" and not regedit alone, is because some worms create a new file called "regedit.com" in your system (this will execute first than the .exe). Follow this instructions to remove all these files.

- Click HERE to download Killbox.
- Save the program to your desktop and double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
- In the Killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
- Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
