I'm not sure this is the right place to post, but it seemed the most logical place to post. Here's my problem.
I have a new computer (Dell) with Windows XP. When I sign on to the internet it will connect but then it freezes. At this point I cannot get task manager or anything else to work. If I wait anywhere from 2-5 minutes it usually will start working. I have Netzero dial up (dial up is my only option where I live), I had
AOL and thought that might be the problem so I switched, but it still freezes. I have spyware detectors and anti-virus software installed and nothing shows up there. I have ran updates and gone through all the processes listed on this site to do before running hijack this..........nothing appears to be wrong there. I have talked to dell and previously AOL, nothing they have told me helps. Occasionally everything will load just fine but it freezes quite often. Any ideas as to what to do? I've done a search and haven't found what I'm looking for either. Thanks for any advice you may have.

Hi LSC68! Welcome to G2G!

I had this exact same problem at work yesterday and what ended up being the problem is that the network interface card (NIC) was bad. I replaced it and the computer no longer froze when accessing the Internet.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the nic card and how would I check it? I guess I thought networking was more of an issue with computers in an office or something. This is my home computer and the only one there.
