(Before I begin, I'm already aware that I have a similar topic with the same problem. I just wish to renew it since I didn't get any good suggestions)

Our computer won't shut down properly. It would go through the phases up until it would get to that Blue "Windows is Shutting Down" screen, then stops. Eventually the mouse pointer would also freeze and nothing else happens. A suggestion was made for some sort of command to see if it would work that way, but that didn't help, either.

(P.S. I am already aware that I don't have the SP2 pack. Thsi is because that although we can download and install it, it for some reason freezes up when it goes to the XP loading thing, and I'm not sure why it does that. Although the current issue is on the shutdown procedure, if anyone has any idea [or any link] to the loadup freezing, let me know.)

I don't know what all you've tried to resolve this issue, but HERE are a handful of potential solutions. Let me know if any of these have any bearing on the problem you are having.

Well, we tried:

-Reinstalling Windows XP. That just wound up bringing back some message error but we fixed that.
-Accessing the Msconfig program and going to Selective Startup, and disabling the following:
--Load System Services
--Load Startup Items
--Process SYSTEM.INI File
--Process WIN.INI Fiule
--Process BOOT.INI File
-Setting Windows XP to an earlier system restore location.

I can't remember any others.

Incidentially if you were tyring to provide a link I didn't get one.

That did it, thanks. It was the new sound card that caused the problem. Now it's shutting down and restarting like normal (aside from the sound card making a "running-down record" sound whenever it shuts down), so thanks for the help ^_^
