I think you definitely have a hardware problem. It sounds like the fan may be failing or at least not functioning properly, which is causing your computer to overheat.
At this point I would recommend that you back up any personal data or files that you can't afford to lose(just in case). Then start a new thread at the hardware forum and let one the Trusted Techs there take a look at things for you.
