Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download smitRem at http://noahdfear.gee.../click.php?id=1 and save the file to your desktop.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and read the Ewido setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee.../ewidosetup.htm. Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet. NOTE: If you have Windows 9x/ME, you don't need to run Ewido (skip this step).

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow the download and setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee...areSE_setup.htm. Otherwise, check for updates. Don't run it yet!

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpBCFD.tmp
O23 - Service: ECA (cpanel) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\javapanel.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Mouse Cursor Monitor (mousecrm) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecrm.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: SystemManager - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\sysmanager.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: TASKESV (TESV) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\taskcntr.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: wordpad - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\wordpad.exe (file missing)

Run the smitRem.exe tool you downloaded earlier. There should be a folder called smitrem created on your desktop. Open it and double click on the RunThis file. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop cpanel
sc delete cpanel
sc stop mousecrm
sc delete mousecrm
sc stop TESV
sc delete TESV
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvctrl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpBCFD.tmp

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
* You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
* If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
* Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'.
* If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now.
* When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Close Ewido.

Next go to Control Panel->Display->Desktop (or Appearance)->Customize Desktop->Web-> Uncheck 'Security Info' if present. Also delete it.

Restart your computer to get back to Normal Mode..

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

* Click on 'Scan your PC' button. There should be a popup - if you have a pop-up blocker, make sure it's not blocking it.
* Click 'Check Now' & a pop-up window will appear.
* Enter your Country, State and E-mail Address & click 'Scan Now' - begin downloading Panda's ActiveX controls (8 MB size).
* Begin the scan by selecting My Computer.
* If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Ignore any entry it finds (since it wants you to buy the program for removal) as we will address this later.
* Click on see report. Then click Save report.
* Please post that log in your next reply.

Then post the Panda log here along with the logs for smitfiles.txt, Ewido and a new HijackThis log.

Hi Greyknight,

Thank you so much for your promt response. The reason for my delay was I had no printer to print your instructions but have now sorted that out.

I began on your instructions last night and when I got to the HijackThis scan, I got this (and deleted it):
O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpBF685.tmp

instead of this (the last bit was slightly different) :
O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpBCFD.tmp

When it had finished this, it restarted the computer to normal mode: as your instructions did not say anything else, I continued on and only saw later that you had written much further on to restart the comp to normal mode - I was running the smitRem at the time.

Should I go back and start again? Was I wrong to delete that file above?

Thank you.

No need. Continue on as is...

Yes, you did delete the correct one :) The name just changed that means, but we will delete that eventually....better yet, smitrem will remove it for us :tazz:

There should be more from that smitfiles.txt. Is that the whole log?

Run through some of these steps again:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp3A74.tmp
O23 - Service: ECA (cpanel) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\javapanel.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Mouse Cursor Monitor (mousecrm) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecrm.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: TASKESV (TESV) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\taskcntr.exe (file missing)

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop cpanel
sc delete cpanel
sc stop mousecrm
sc delete mousecrm
sc stop TESV
sc delete TESV
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp3A74.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\javapanel.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecrm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\taskcntr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\z.bat

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Then post the Panda log here along with the logs for smitfiles.txt and a new HijackThis log.

Download AntiPuper http://secured2k.hom...s/AntiPuper.exe and run it. Follow the instructions...

Uninstall SpyFalcon via the Add/Remove panel if still still and then delete the folder/icons for it.

Restart and see if it's still found.

:-( ...it's still there!

I cannot uninstall SpyFalcon via the Add/Remove panel. When I click on "Change/Remove" I get a pop up window saying "An error occured while trying to remove SpyFalcon 2.0. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove SpyFalcon 2.0 from the Add or Remove programs list?"

What happens when you choose to remove it from the Add/Remove Programs list? Is it removed? If so, is it still detected now?

Ok I have removed it from the Add/Remove Programs list but it is still on the computer.

When I do a search for SpyFalcon on the C drive I get these results:
Recycle Bin - 4KB Shortcut
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu -1KB Shortcut
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs File folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\SpyFalcon -1KB Shortcut (this one has an IE icon beside it)
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\SpyFalcon -1KB Shortcut
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch -1KB Shortcut

Delete those files and folders. Then empty the Recycle Bin and restart your computer. See if it comes back. If it does, we'll try doing a bunch of manual deletions...

You know what Greyknight? you are just wonderful :-) An absolute Superstar! No sign of SpyTracker and when I do a search, I find nothing. Thank you for taking the time and the effort. Much obliged. My hope is that your effort will come back to you in a profound way ;-)

Thanks
