OK so I called Best Buy the other day to find out if they carried any Rollover Cables because I have a cisco 2500 router that I needed to program. However, when I was able to talk to the "GEEK SQUAD" they told me that there is no difference between a Crossover cable and a Rollover cable. I am in the cisco program and we were taught that there is a difference between the two and every place on-line that I have looked also says that there is a difference between the to. Will someone please clear this up for me. Is it not true that a rollover cable is paired

geek squad are idiots....

there is a large difference between a rollover and a crossover...why else would there be a different name? i don't know that best buy carries rollovers...the only one's ive ever gotten...come with my cisco devices...along with the little serial connector that you need to hook up as well...

there's a schematic..if you need to make a rollover...basically...on one end pin one is the same color wire as pin 9 on the other..

Ethernet cables are teminated either as a straight-thru or crossover...using the standard 568A or 568B wiring methods.

I have never heard of a rollover...until now...must be a Cisco thing.

1-8
2-7...etc makes sense.

Anyway, pictures are better than words.

Straight-thru: 568A <--> 568A or 568B <--> 568B

Crossover, this is where it gets tricky: 568A <--> 568B

Thanks for the help. I called Best Buy back and told the general manager that he needs to send his geek's back to school. It gives us good techs a bad name in the business. Then I thought about it and realized all it does is give us more business when they screw up. LOL Thanks......

the geek squad are a bunch of lakkies....had a friend back home that worked in the car audio section of best buy....when the geek squad started at that store....they transfered him over there...this guy would call me at least once a day before this happened to ask me how to turn off caps lock...how to center stuff in word...."why won't my computer turn on" is it plugged in "ooooohhhh yeah..that would help." some of their staff...actually knows what they're doing...but..not many of them

I am a former Geek Squad trained in CCNA and I will speak for myself and not all the other idiots that do work for the Geek Squad. I've ran into a few Geek Squad Agents lying to customers when they didn't know what the answer was.
