Right click on the task bar, choose properties, then Start Menu tab and "customize".

Hi Grandpa,

One quick way to do this if you have Windows XP is simply to right-click on the program in your start menu and select 'Remove From This List' or 'Delete.' Keep in mind though that if you want to remove programs the best way is to use Add/Remove Programs under the Control Panel.

Hope this helps,

When you click customize, on the General tab, in the center, is a box called "programs". You can clear the list and set it to 0 to not display most recently used programs when you click the Start button.

Do you mean the start button, or the system tray near the clock?

Is this what you are after?
Right click on an empty space of the taskbar > click on start menu> click on classic start menu>click on customise>click on remove this will give a list of the programs in the start menu and the accessories etc
