Hi

Windows doesn't seem to be able to copy to CD Writer it tells me " Widows has a problem trying to copy to CD ...what do you want to do" (or words to that effect) The CD writer is HP CD Writer series 9100b.

Ive also tried using Ashampoo Burning Studio, but it can't copy either.s something corrupt?? Ive no idea.

Anyone any ideas on how to get it to copy.

Many thanks

Grandpa

PS The word should be copy not sopy.

open up my computer > right click on your cd burner > properties > recording > make sure the "enable cd recording on this drive" is checked

Hi dsenette

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately when I click My computer I dont see any CD Writer only Hard Disc Drives, Devices with Removeable Storage etc, but no CD Writer. I wonder somewhere I was reading about XP Tweakes where amongst other things suggeted to turn off was , alerter, fast user switching, Remote access Connection, and more whether I may have turned something off to do with the CD writer, I can't remember where these options were to check.

I can't even use the windows facility to copy/burn to CD. Not the Ashampoo Burning Suite.

Any ideas please.

Many thanks

Hi

Believe it or not, I dont play music cds on computer ( sad)

Im just trying to copy files from my computer to cd or copy from cd to cd.

I have been able to do it in the past, until I think in trying to tweak things I tposs tweaked something I shouldn't have.

Cheers

well...what i'm trying to do is see if this is an actual burning issue...or if the burning issue is secondary to the fact that you don't have a cdrom detected in windows...

howmany cd drives do you have? 1 or 2? are they both writers? and...just to verify..neither shows up under my computer right? can you find them in device manager?

Hi

Both CD (2)drives show in MY Computer, I can only write ( or used to be able) to 1.
When you asked me before I think I must have been on another planet,

I right clicked on the CD drive>properties. Enable CD recording on this drive is ticked
many apologies. Im so, so stupid.

Cheers

Hi

My restore points are now only a few days old, and are after the tweaking. Maybe repair windows.

if you feel comfortable with doing an xp repair it may be an option...but first

Do you have a valid XP cd?

If so, place it in your CD ROM drive and follow the instructions below

Start > Run > cmd then type

sfc /scannow (note the space)

let this run untill you get a message saying it is complete.

SFC - system file checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file.

If you want to see what was replaced, right click My Computer > manage, expand event viewer > system.

no clue if that will fix this...but it's worked for weird things in the past...it's just hard to narrow down..not knowing exactly what you tweaked..how you tweaked it and where it was tweaked..
