Hey, I hope this topic is alright in this forum... Is it possible to get application or device that can automatically boot/shutdown your computer on a timer? I'm wondering because I just got my new computer a week ago (which works nice and fast) but I want to keep it up to speed and free of viruses. If I had it my way I would set up my computer somehow to boot up at 1 in the morning to do a virus scan, defrag and adware scan as well as a backup of my C: drive, then it would shutdown at 4 or something. Because usally when Im around to do these things manually I want to use the computer to play games not wait for it. Any suggestions would be appretiated.

leave the computer on? Schedule those tasks?

A modern PC with power management set properly will not use a lot of electricity--some even argue that starting and stopping a PC is more taxing then leaving it on

Just turn off the monitor, which uses the most electricty
