Hi,

I just bought a brand new computer and I'm somewhat computer illiterate. Until now I've had the same computer for eight years...

Shortly after I bought my new computer I tried to log onto my favorite forum. It's a forum similar to this one, but it's more of a hobby site. In any case, I was unable to log on. The site would not allow me in. I went to my wife's computer and found that I could log on via her computer, but on my computer it just tells me that the password is wrong for my username.

A site moderator told me it might be that I had problems with my cookies. I tried to change my level of cookiness on my new computer and the site still wouldn't let me in. The site moderator has become sick of my emails...

In any case, I'm looking for some help/suggestions as to how to make my computer work on my favorite bulletin board. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Jason!, Welcome to Geeks To Go! :)

what i whould like to have you do is a temp dump, what could possibly be happaning is you are getting so many temp files stored up on your computer that your ram becomes full.

Temp Dump:
tools>internet options>general>under tempory internet files>settings>settings>view files> delete anything in there dont you recongnize, remember that not all temp files are bad, these include favorites, and saved passwords.

if you dont have any saved passwords or favorits then you can do a complete temp dump, but i do not recoment it unless you truly do not care about any of the temp files :tazz: :
Click start then control panel, click network and internet then internet options

On the general tab, click delete cookies, click delete files, include offline content, click clear history.

Click apply after each change.

Click the security tab and click default, click privacy and click default, click programmes and click reset web settings, click advanced to tick, do not save encrypted pages to disc and empty the temporary internet files folder when the browser is closed, click apply

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file, click delete, confirm delete.

Click start then all programmes, accessories, system tools, to run disc clean up, reboot

==============
hope this is helpful, post back if you have any pproblems, or if it works. :)

Mile Runner,

Thanks for such a quick response...

I have just followed your instructions to a tee and it didn't work. I'd be super psyched for more ideas!

What's weird is that this site and other sites let me log in. I don't know why that one site won't let me in on this computer, but it will let me in on a different one...?

Per haps someone cracked your password? and changegd it for that particular site! they should have a place for -can't remember password- and a secret question - to get a new one? like where were you born , etc.

the user has already stated that he can log on from a different computer :tazz: obviolsy its an issue with the coputer and/or browser of the user, and does not have to do with the forum itself. :)

Unfortunately, I don't have a second browser on my new computer.

The forum site manager gave me a new password to see if that would work. But as Mile Runner pointed out, I can log on from a different computer but not my own...

More suggestions...?

Thanks again in advance.
