My Gateway Essential 933c, Windows ME, is running really slow these days. In the past, I've been infected with the dreaded PSGuard, but Justin took care of that. I'm running AVG and it seems to be doing the job, but I'm not sure if something slipped thru that it didn't catch. It just seems like the machine takes forever to do anything...20 seconds plus to open a blank Word doc!!!

Here's the HJT log. Looks like there may be problems, but you're the experts...

Are you still having slow-down troubles?

Yes, but I'm patiently working my way through it. Seems there are a lot of background items running, and I'm learning about which ones are important. What do you think of "The Ultimate Troubleshooter"??

is it worth the $30 or can I do the same things for free manually?

I've found a lot of info on this subject, and cleaning house in the startup list (msconfig) seems to be the thing everyone is pointing to.

Found somethnig similar to TUT...at nirsoft.net/utils/strun.html......perhaps that is next!

thanks

You can research the entries in msconfig on www.answersthatwork.com

These are the ones I would uncheck on start-up.

Seems to be working much better without all that @#$! running in the background. And a recent switch to DSL has helped out a bunch, too. I can get rid of all that netzero junk!!

Thanks for the help and advice!
