Help--

I am chasing an elusive involuntary reboot.

1. As a result of PC Doctor Diagnostics I replaced 1 Gig of Ram.
2. Everest Home Edition has allowed me to check the temps of the Motherboard and CPU and Harddrive. Even in a Disk Defrag the CPU only reaches 145F and the motherboard 150F. So the machine is not overheating.
3. By process of install/uninstall I found my Microsoft Office 2003 disks went south. Falling back to Office 2000 worked.
4. I am looking at the Event Logs through the Administrative Tools. This is pointing out several error messages.
5.I have unchecked automatic restart in the Control Panel. This would narrow the problem. If it stops in the Blue Screen it is software. If it reboots without stop it is hardware.

The problem remains that when I install Anti-virus software (TrendMicro or ZoneAlarm) I immediately get involuntary reboots....does not stop at Blue Screen. I am looking for more tools to diagnose the reboot.

Microsoft Office 2003 would not install to completion(hung writing the registry). That installation was suspended and then rolled back. I am suspicious of a bad registry but can't provide.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL TOOLS TO DIAGNOSE THIS ELUSIVE REBOOT?

you sure about the temperatures? Your motherboard should not be hotter than your cpu, and those are actually fairly hot temps for the cpu--not insane hot, but hot

Trend Micro and Zone Alarm cause reboot.

Note: Normal operating temps for the Motherboard 120: for the CPU:106 for the harddrive 97. The 145 and 150 temps are only at the conclusion of the defrag. The above errors run through about a 5 to 10 day period.

This one here should be a cause for concern

can you double click that error and post that information?

An Errror Was Detected on Device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation;

Explanation:

An Input/Ouput (I/O) to a memory mapped file failed and the operation was retried.

User Action:

If these events are logged regularly in a primary system drive, replace the device. Otherwise no user action is required.

This happened when the system was idle (overnight) and at the time when I was having trouble installing Microsoft Office 2003. The installation was hanging when writing the registry. When uninstalling Trend Micro it picked up the Office Suspended installation and rolled it back.

The Blue Screen message was "Page_FAULT_Detected_In_NonPaged_Area"

After rolling back the suspended Microsoft Office Installation the problem did not reoccur.

The reboot began again and I looked at the event viewer. It came up with a TMXPFLT Service depends on nonexistent service VSAPint. Since I had previously had problems with the SBC DSL installation I went back and reinstalled.

Then I reinstalled ZoneLab Antivirus. The since (at least temporarily stopped reboots.

I downloaded and installed Speedfan. I then went to SMART Tab and checked the results for the Local Hard Disk. No red Xs.

The following have OK alongside them:

THERE ARE NO RED Xs

search for tmxpflt.sys ...where is it located?

It may be a trendmicro antivirus program but it can also be the Trojan.Leega trojan horse

Both TMXPFLT and VSAPint are in the directory c:\Program Files\VCOM\Fix-It. Apparently they are both part of the Fix-It Utiliites 6. Fix It Utilities Shows Up In the Control Panel but not in the start up menu. I am going to reinstall the fix-it utilities.

Thank you for proding me in the right direction.

I think one of the other errors may be related to the DSL installation but I am not sure yet how...

By uninstalling the fix-it utilities the TMXPFLT / VSApint error (7003) goes away.

A true vector error appears in the application events. I am now going to uninstall SBC DSL from the laptop and reinstall it.

Apparently the Internet logons got corrupted.

It looks like the Event logs (App and system) hold the answer to this mystery.

The TrueVector Engine Files had to be emptied in the recycle bin (previous run). That error is not reoccuring.

That makes two that appear not to be reoccurring. It appears that correcting the errors in the Application and System Error Events will eventually correct the reboot. But I am not there yet.

The Event Viewer is now showing repeat "Bad Block" in the System Error folder. Now I have a "hard failure" that I can show a tech.

Now the system is going in for hardware repair. This is the first "hard failure" that I can demonstrate.

true vector is part of zone alarm.

Bad blocks are usually a failing drive, but if it is your cd-rom, it could be simply a failing disk

Can you copy and paste the bad black error?

As a short-term, possible fix,

start > run
cmd
<enter>

chkdsk /r
say yes to schedule at next boot and reboot

take a walk this could take a while
