hello, my first post!

symptoms: keep getting popup message saying network cable unplugged-local area connection blah blah blah...i had cable people out to the house to fix my low signal strength. I upgraded to 5megs speed, but was never able to get more than 2.9. My wireless networked laptop downstairs however gets 5megs easily. I thought my NIC card was bad in my desktop, but the repair shop said it was a bad slot, moved it one over, works yet problems continue. I have tried different cables too!

Dunno-I think it is time to replace the computer. Pent 3 866 upgraded to Win Xp. Motorola SB4100 & Linsys Wireless-B router, etc all firmware, driver updated.

Your diagnosis please?

thanks in advance, MikeM

thankyou, i will try that. Someone gave me a NIC card they didn;t need. Does it matter if she has DSL and I have cable? A nic is a nic, right?

I appreciate your help!
