I guess I've been feeling a bit like I've done something wrong (as opposed to stupid ) in ending up in this situation and have been less aggressive in trying to insist on a fix. Your point is well taken and I will take it up with dell again.

if you need to install winxpsp2 you can use the IT install from this link .... even tho it says its for multiple installs over a network
