Hi guys!

I just moved back down to South Florida, and have subscribed to Adelphia for cable Internet. I've had DSL and cable Internet from two other providers prior to this, both moving at faster average speeds.

The problem I have is that for cable, web sites load slowly for me, and my download speed from multiple sites is capped at 200kbps. I've called them and they've said it could be spyware or an outdated modem (which they brought to me on installation).

Since then, I've installed STOPzilla, and run Ad-Aware to see if anything could be gotten rid of. I was able to get rid of a couple threats, but my speed is still the same.

What else could be causing such a major slowdown in the speed? Is an older model modem really an issue, or just a tech support solution to get me off the phone quickly? Any and all help would be appriciated, and thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome to geekstogo,
ad-ware is a good program however there are many others that are much better at finding things. It could be the modem but lets first rule out the other problem, malware.

Please go to the malware forum in my signature and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.

Once they have cleaned you up there, pleae report back here to let me know if the problem is now fixed or if you need furthur help.
thanx
