Hi all,

After what happened at the end of this topic, http://www.geekstogo...topic=97572&hl=

I have a brand new installation of Windows with a completely formatted HD. The only things i have are Firefox and ZoneAlarm at the moment
Anyway, when i booted my Computer about twent mins. ago, everytime i got to windows, the PC restarted by itself. It did this about six times until eventually it started as normal. Any ideas why this might be occuring?

Look under APPLICATIONS and SYSTEM for errors and report back

Also, reset Windows so it does not restart on errors

Right click MY COMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES, choose ADVANCED, choose SETTINGS under STARTUP and RECOVERY section, and UNCHECK restart on error

Next time you get and an error you will get a Blue screen with erorr information--report back that information, especially STOP: ????????????????

Hi,

I do not get the "Blue Screen Of Death". The event viewer has found several errors. Is there a way for me to save and post a log? They are quite long, especially the "System" tab.

The disk seems to be the error showing up the most.

true vector logs are zonealarm errors--it seems to be telling you that certain logs are getting corrupted and need to be replaced with backups, which leads to

the controller errors, the kernal trap errors, disk, system error, DCOM, service control or the atapi

DCOM errors are normal, as are service control errors--often times, they are informational (the service did not start in the time it was expected to, but then it starts later)

the controller errors, disk errors and kernal trap error are likely related to a failing harddrive.

How many drives are there in this system?

Hello again,

One drive in this system. 80Gb Internal. It is only about 6 months old. Haven't had that restarting problem since..... would it have been a once or twice off?

I should probably say and indication of a failing drive, rather than a dead certainty

It could also be special drivers for certain chipsets...nvidia and via chipsets have special drivers (or in via's case had)...or RAID drivers (which are not using with one drive obviously)

do you know who makes your motherboard?

PC specs:

Motherboard is an MSI 915 GVM4 series.
Processor is Pentium 4 2.66Ghz,
RAM is 512Mb,
No graphics card or sound card (motherboard has both of these),
Windows XP w/ Service pack 2,
DVD-RL Burner,
NO Floppy drive,

I just realized that we have not run a diskcheck on this thing

cmd

type
chkdsk /r
<enter>

Say yes to run on next reboot.

Reboot, go take a walk this will take some time.
