Hey

Ive been trying for a while now to get this computer working.

ive checked a few places for the virus check

I have symantic corp
spybot s&d
and also I ran house call

I am getting a error message popping up all the time from startup to shutdown

Svchost.exe - application error

The intruction at "0x00000000" refrenced memory at "0x00000000" the memory could not be written.

click ok to terminate
click cancel to debug

Might be a Windows Update thing. Try these steps...

1) Go to your Start menu
2) Right click "My Computer"
3) Click on "Properties" then the "Automatic Updates" tab
4) Choose "Turn off automatic updates", click on Apply/OK
5) Reboot your computer

See if the error still appears. If it doesn't, you would want to turn on Automatic update again, but first...

1) Go back to Start menu and in All programs go to "Windows Update" (you have to be connected to the internet).
2) Manually update windows.
3) Restart your computer
4) Turn your Automatic updates back "On"

Svchost errors are notorious and very difficult to isolate. Hopefully this might help you. If not, hopefully someone else can chime in.

I'm not able to turn them fully off.

I tried logging in as admin and also in safe mode and not able to turn them fully off. this is pretty much the only thing that I wasnt able to do

I tried new ram
virus scans
restarted all services disabled all non core startup items.

I tried stopping auto updates with net stop wudusrv or whatever it is *cant remember off the top of my head*

If you know what step I might be missing

(BTW this is XP pro on a domain)

That's like key information, wouldn't you say!

If you are on a workstation, then you will need to contact the administrator as probably your computer is part of group policies for the domain and you cannot make changes.

but the thing is I am logged in locally as administrator

If you are on a Domain, and even if your workstation is given "full admin rights", if you cannot change group policies, or if you see that some policies are locked, then you will need to find the admin of the domain to make the changes you need to make. Many domain accounts appear to have full rights when in fact they don't. They are still governed by domain policies.

If you are truly the admin then you should have no problem disabling Automatic updates. What is the problem with not being able to fully disable it? Are you seeing an error?

Hey sorry I forgot to tell I got it fixed

I edited the group policies to disable automatic updates and it did the trick Thanks for the help

Can you please tell me exactly what did you do to turn it off?
