My computer keeps freezing up. I can't even get into the task manager and must hard re-start the machine.

I have formatted the computer several times with clean installs of XP 32bit, Vista 32bit and Vista 64bit but it does the same thing. My event viewer is riddled with restarts but they're always for something different.

I've scanned with Norton IS 2009, avast, Spy Sweeper, SpyBot SD, Windows defender, SpyHunter, AdAware, Malware Bytes, and to many others to count. All they come up with is normal low threat cookies.

I am completely stumped, and this stupid thing is driving me crazy.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

I uploaded a copy of the event log since I've installed the latest OS.

1400 Warnings / Errors in 3 days.

I'm working on getting a HJthis log posted as well.

P.S. Sorry about it being a txt file, it wouldn't let me upload a .csv file.

Hi there and sorry for the delay I will need a fresh look at your system and what are your current symptoms

To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached (instructions at the end) if it is to large to attach then upload to Mediafire and post the sharing link.

Download OTS to your Desktop
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All Users
  • Check the box that says 64 bit
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • File - Lop Check
    • File - Purity Scan
    • Evnt - EvtViewer (last 10)
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

Thanks for the reply but it won't let me upload the file, it's 908kb and it says I can only upload 500K.

Any ideas?

Hi there is no apparent malware showing, so I am leaning towards a system problem. I.e. Motherboard or RAM

I will give a spring clean first and see if that achieves anything

SPRING CLEAN

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Open the file and close any other windows.
  • It will close all programs itself when run, make sure to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. The program should not take long to finish its job
  • Once its finished it should reboot your machine, if not, do this yourself to ensure a complete clean

THEN

Download and run Auslogics Disc Defragmenter

On completion if you could let me know of any change

I did the Spring Cleaning and still had the freezeup. It seems that the same errors happen everytime over and over in the event viewer. The BTHUSB seems to start the problem each time, and I notice that sometimes my Bluetooth mouse/keyboard stop working and I have to unplug and plug the transceiver back in to get it working sometimes. It's a Microsoft keyboard / mouse, so it should work with "Microsoft" vista right?

These are the errors after I did the cleaning:

Thanks for your help on this, I tried using Microsoft's tech support and they told me nothing was wrong. To me 1891 events is a problem, especially when they are essentially the same 4-5 events.

The BTHUSB seems to start the problem each time

This is your Bluetooth hub which would make think that is where your failures are originating. As this problem continues to re-appear after each reformat/install definitely leads me to suspect hardware. Unfortunately my knowledge in this area is limited. I would recommend posting to the hardware experts in this forum, letting them know that you have no apparent malware and referencing this thread. Sorry I could not be of more assistance :)
