I began the journey to a solution in this thread & will provide background to the problem as well as crash details and recovery details.

Update:

I ran Avast on my external harddrive which is used to backup all the data on my laptop which is close to death and it found some viruses and trojans: Win32:Trojan-gen, Win32Malware-gen in G:\System Volume Information\.. the folder
