Dell Inspiron 1420
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T5450 @ 1.66GHz 1.67 GHz
Memory: 2GB
32-bit operating system
Windows Vista Home Premium (service pack 2)

tl;dr Problems:
- Freezing
- Running slow
- Wireless signal goes out for one second (enough to cut out my online games or MSN)

For the past month it has been running really slowly and freezing. I've been trying to fix it for awhile with no luck. At one point, I disabled most of my visual effects and that seemed to help for a couple of days. Now, the freezing/slowness is back. I'm also having the 'stuttering' another user posted: I'll be watching a movie and it keeps stuttering, or I call it lagging. I have done scans using CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Hijackthis and Advanced SystemCare. I removed a couple of things hijackthis.de told me to, but otherwise CCleaner and Malwarebytes didn't find anything. I've also done these scans in safemode.

You should make separate post about 2nd laptop.
So, let's focus on the first one.

How big is a hard drive/free space?

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Export As, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Attach the file to your next reply.

Please download VEW and save it to your Desktop: http://images.malwar...om/vino/VEW.exe

Double-click VEW.exe then under Select log to query, select:
Application
System

Under Select type to list, select:
Critical (Vista only)
Error

Click the radio button for Number of events
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

In Notepad, click Edit > Select all then Edit > Copy
Reply to this post, click in the reply window and press Ctrl+V on your keyboard to paste the log.

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.micro...s/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply.

I'm guessing I do that through power properties?

Hm, I'm in power options but I really don't know where to go from there, sorry...

Edit: I took a 'guide' from here but I am already on high performance so I don't know what to change...

Uner "High performance" click on "Change plan settings".
There is number of options there. Make sure, nothing like "sleep", "hibernate", etc. is enabled.

Well, you have numerous errors, which say:

Event: 41 Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition.

I've done scans and nothing has been found; I don't see how this can be a virus problem.
Either way, I have posted a thread... thanks for the help so far. :)

You never answered:

How big is a hard drive/free space?

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Export As, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Attach the file to your next reply.

Actually, I did. It's in the post with the log; I bolded it so that you would see it.
Once again: 54.2GB free of 220GB

I also did the autoruns attachment, but I guess I'll do it again...

I don't see much here, either.

Next step...

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy (with Vista, most likely, you won't need it).
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD (rarely in Vista case).
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.
In Vista you will receive the following message: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".
