System 32

When I open the C:\ and then WINDOWS there is a system folder but no system 32 and i was wondering why and could this cause any problems.
It is supposed to be there and when McAfee runs a virus scan it scans that folder and everything in it. But the folder is just not there.

Help?

When you search for it, does it show up as a hidden file?

When I searched for it it didn't bring anything up and it searches for all system files and hidden files but absolutely nothing. Please help

it would cause a great many problems if it is not there...your pc woudl not start.

Open MY COMPUTER, choose TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW tab, and select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS....there?

also, try
start > run
cmd
enter

at
c:\documents and settings\{profile}, type

cd..
enter

cd..
enter

cd windows

then type
dir /p

hit the space bar to scroll and look for system32

No system 32 there either there are:
System
System$$.VIZ
system.ini
and then
TASKMAN.EXE
But no System 32

no system 32 in what procedure I outlined?

Do a search, including hidden and system files, for comdlg32.dll

This file MUST be on your machine and is in the system32 directory (or whatever it was renamed)

My guess it that an error occured at one time? Did you ever run a repair?

ALso, right click MY COMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES, choose ADVANCED tab, click ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES button, then click the PATH line and EDIT.

select everything, then CANCEL button, then paste contents here

Ok done the search and it was found

Also this was in the path line
Box 1: Path
Box 2:%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

found it where? One or two?

right click the file, choose OPEN CONTAINING FOLDER...in the window, choose TOOLS > FOLDER OPTION, VIEW tab, and select SHOW PATH IN ADDRESS bar....copy and paste the address bar here, but it will tell you where that file is located.

That is your system32 folder

Only one and it is in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

No, U can't say as that folder stores files to be installed with a "service pack".
Can u follow the steps in Post#7 where u checked the "Environment Variables" like PATH and tell me the value of ComSpec variable.

I had this problem as well, the way I sovled it is reinstalled the OS onto my computer. It was annoying but hey.

do not remove any folders, system32 folder is a hidden folder depending on your system.
have you upgraded into XP or you have installed a fresh copy on your system?

Start -> Run and type the following %SystemRoot%\system32 then press enter. this should take you to your system32 folder.
