I had one day mysteriously found Winfixer on my computer (after not using it for two weeks, so Im not even sure where/what I was searching for when the problem hit. Ofcourse someone else could have been using this computer, but I suppose this is all irrelivent). After installing Search and Destroy I found that many Malware programs were on my computer. Every day since then I have been running Search and Destroy once or twice a computing session to get rid of the Malware and accompanying pop ups. This issue has finally become to much because it is now affecting my anti-virus protection. I run Norton and C/O "Real Time Protection" I continually get this message:

Scan type: Realtime Protection Scan
Event: Virus Found!
Virus name: Trojan.Vundo
File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll
Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32
Computer: YARMO-BOYZ
User: Yormolinsky
Action taken: Clean failed : Quarantine failed : Access denied
Date found: Fri Oct 14 00:02:27 2005

Obviously, I can end the madness by ending my real time protection, but this is obviously not a viable long term solution!

As requested, here are my logs:

Welcome to GTG.

Please do not post duplicate topics. I closed your other topic.\

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Right click and copy the below lines. Go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nrbsnrxp.dll

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

Please download VundoFix.exe at http://www.atribune....ds/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files.
* After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key (or F5 in some machines) until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
* Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
* Please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll

* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* When asked for a second path, enter -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\ihkmp.*
* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
* In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Bho - {7F709074-C96C-4cec-B0B8-DA49EA145F73} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nrbsnrxp.dll
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmkhi - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll

* After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
* Pressing any key will cause a 'Blue Screen of Death' this is normal, do not worry!
* Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp! http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click 'Options...'
Move the arrow down to 'Custom CleanUp!'
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

Click OK. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run an online virus scan at ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Thank you very much for your help! Sorry, for reposting the thread, but you can imagine how nervous this all was making me! I just wanted to get it fixed as soon as possible!

During the HiJackThis scan, the:

O2-BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll

Never showed up. Therefore I was unable to fix it.

Also I was unable to run the PandaSoftware scan, repeatedly recieving this message after each attempt I tried:

An error has occurred downloading Panda ActiveScan. Please repeat the process. If the error occurs again, restart your system and try again
Possible causes of this error are:

Not allowing the application's ActiveX control to be downloaded.

Problems with the Internet connection.

The error could be due to a download error or an installation error due to lack of hard disk space, privileges etc.,...

Make sure you are allowing the ActiveX control to be downloaded. Since you have SP2, you should see a yellow bar in Internet Explorer when you try to download the ActiveX. Click on that yellow bar and allow it to download.

Check and fix these in HijackThis:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Bho - {7F709074-C96C-4cec-B0B8-DA49EA145F73} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nrbsnrxp.dll (file missing)
