:) Hello to Everyone. Today, my 8 month old flash thumb drive (Corsair 2.0GB) has failed to be recognized my PC and laptop. It was working fine 24 hours ago. Once I plugged it into the USB port (this morning), the blue light appeared for a second and then the message pops out stating that Windows cannot recognize it. I have important medical files stored and I need to access them. I contacted the company but they told me that it is fried and they will send me a new one. However, I want to know if is there anyway to recover those files in the flash thumb drive. Please, I need help. Greatly appreciate any suggestions.

You might try these recovery softwares.

neither is very cheap. This depends on the value you have for the data. I have used recover my files with success, but at a price equal to the cost of a new flash drive.

Thanks. I made some calls and the limiting factor for the recovery software is that the computer have to be able to read or recognize the USB device in order to work. Mine is not being recognized. In other words, some internal problem in the USB thumb drive has gone awry. Appreciate your help. I decided to get a new thumb drive. So, while it is been delivered, I am using my iPOD Shuffle as a temporary USB Thumb drive and (to my surprise) it is working great (storing excel, word, ppt, jpeg and pdf files) without a problem. Thanks SRX660.

When my Lexar 256mb drive went through the wash,it was not recognized as a drive either. Lexar warranty support was able to extact the files from the old flashdrive and put them on CD for me, as well as replacing the drive with a new unit. I don't know if Corsair can do that, but it never hurts to ask...I would hope that an 8-month old drive would still be in warranty....

On a related question, my thumb drive stopped working on my laptop, but still works on other computers. Other USB devices work still on the laptop.

I have verified the USBSTOR (USB thumbdrive driver) is still there.

Any thoughts?
