xp home restore calendar only current month shown

A weird problem with XP Home OEM- if I attempt to restore to an earlier date I get the current month's window up OK but if I try to click the back arrow to show restore points from earlier months nothing happens. If I choose a restore point earlier in current month it does it OK. What can be the cause?
