Help using final cut pro to remove hum

Hi,
I'm struggling to remove a hum in the audio track of a video i'm working with using final cut pro for the mac G5. I've tried to use the audio filter called: hum remover, but it didn't seem to work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
