System clean and running as sweet as a nut since removing Norton, but I'm still using Explore to check anything that looks odd. In my Downloaded Programme files, I found this: {31564D57-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}, Version 0,0,0,1 It's 32KB and has no known status, creation date or access information. Properties just tells me it's an ActiveX Control that is dependent on a WMVAX.INF* file. I don't like it ~ can I make it go away?

Also when running a Microsoft update (see ~ I read all your instructions!), it's offering me a DirectX.90: End-User Runtime. I am now deeply suspicious of anything with an 'X' in it ~ do I need this for Windows 98 Ed. 2/ What does it do?

Any advice appreciated.

Well, typically, WMVAX.inf is a file for Windows Media Player - the number you found is the GUID value (Greek to you, I know ). There are a lot of numbers when dealing with computers, nothing to be afraid of . There are also good ActiveX controls and there are bad ones, there is no reason to be leery of everything with an X in it now! Do you think that you will download a virus from Microsoft? The DirectX 9.0 c End-User Run Time is an update to your current version of DirectX (which is "the core Windows® technology that drives high-speed multimedia and games on the PC."). To tell you anything else, we would need to see your HiJack This log to make sure everything is legit.
