I have a new Dell desktop with Windows XP. I've had it 5 days and it's been endless problems. I've spent a total of 4 hours on the phone with Dell tech support with no luck at fixing of the problems.

When I visit my message boards I see that the avatars and emoticons are no longer animated.

I do on-line surveys for extra income. Some of them require me to view a short video. I have been unable to complete the surveys the last few days because the videos will not play. They won't even appear on the screen. The survey requirement is Windows Media Player. I have the latest version already installed on my computer.

This is just one of the problems. I'm just going to try to take care of one thing at a time.

I appreciate your time and assistance.

Have you installed any type of firewall or security software?

In the meantime, check the following settings from within explorer....TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > ADVANCED, scroll down to multimedia settings...make sure all the following are checked

PLAY ANIMATIONS
PLAY SOUNDS
PLAY VIDEOS

Also, can you download and play a video file (or for that matter any video file on your computer) with Media Player?

I did check my settings and they are correct.

I can download video files using Media Player.

I have noticed that I'm having trouble with avatars being animated and such on most websites...but not all.

thanks for your help

Not familiar with the most recent version of mcafree...I know that zone alarm will turn off animated gifs, as will some webfilters (proxomitron comes to mind).

Download firefox and does the problem persist?
