I have windows xp pro. w\sp2 on my comuter. I went to play a bicycle solitaire game that I had not played for a few days to a week and I got this message: 16BIT MS-DOS SUBSYSTEM
C:Window SW\SP\System32\Autoexec.NT.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and Microsoft windows application.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
Could someone please tell me what I can do about this? I really do love my old bicycle solitaire.
I would really be greatful for the help. Thank You.

Thank You for replying so fast Caracas, I did as you said, I took you link and down loaded the windows 16 bit quick fix. I ran it twice, and even rebooted my system, but I still got the same message when I tried to load my game disk. I am sure I did it right, it said searching for xp cd, found xp cd in E, Has been fixed. Do you have any other suggestions. Thank You.

Can you locate that AutoExec.NT file? Is it there?

I haven't seen one and I have been going through all my files for hours, is there a certain place that I would look?

It should be in the following folder:

C:\WINDOWS\System32

There is a 2KB AutoExec.NT file.
If it's not there, then you've found the problem

I have a bigger problem, I went to C:\ Window like you said to, but all I have is a folder that says WindowSW, I clicked it & got a folder with SP and I clicked it and the folder in there just said system, and I know for a fact that I used to have a Folder that said WINDOW AND A FOLDER THAT SAID SYSTEM 32. How is my comuter working at all without them?

Lol, haven't seen that before
Go to:
Start > Programs > accessoires > system tools

And click on System information. In the system summary, there should be a Windows Directory and a System Directory...
What do they read?

some good news I think, I went to C:\programs\system32\autoexec.nt
I found it. The icon looks like a sheet of paper, size 1.64 kb. but when I go to start, program,access., it takes me to the help section.

That's the file you need.

Apparently your WINDOWS folder got renamed to Programs.
Perhaps you can try to copy that Autoexec.NT and paste it in the C:Window SW\SP\System32 folder.

Not sure if that will work, though...

There is not a System 32 folder in C:\windowSW\SP folder. the
system 32 folder is in the C:\Programs\System 32
Does this make any sense to you.

Type msinfo32 <enter>

What does it read under Windows Directory & System Directory?

I just went back to the AUTOEXEC.NT icon and pulled up properties on it and clicked the virus property tab and it read, The file does not exist or you don't have sufficient previleges to access it. Does this help?
