Hey guys. I'm trying to help my friend get his laptop back up and running.

The symptoms.

Cannot Boot up windows.
Cannot view hard drive in the BIOS
Primary Drive / ("Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer") cannot be found while, REinstalltion of windows.

I ran the Diagnostics that came with the laptop and ever thing passed till i hit a Error

DST Short Test
Test Result: Fail
Error Code: 1000-0141
Msg: No drive detected

Laptop:
Dell Inspiron 1115
Intel Celeron 2.80GHz L2 cache 128KB
RAM 256 MB
WinXP Home SP2

What i was thinking is i need to install drivers for the BIOS to recognize the hard drive. Has any one else had this probleam

No this was already goin on. My original Thought was to just reinstall windows hopeing the plug and play from the win disk would either detect the hard drive and /or install a driver for it.

If the hard drive can not be seen from the BIOS, it is quite likely that the disk is toast, especially if it was working before.
