Compaq presario Pentium. 56K modem. My dial up internet only goes to 28,800. The internet company said there wasn't a problem.

When I double click on the dial up it takes about 30 seconds for it to come up when I then couple click on the internet exploer icon it takes a minute for the servers home page to come up. Once I am finally here I click on the forum title and it takes about 20 -25 seconds.-- and the computer grinds terrible getting here.

Am I just being impatient? I seem to remember hearing something about drivers? I don't know much about the computer, I would just like it to function faster.

It is slow on and off the internet. Thank you for any assistance.

Click start then all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up

Reboot

Click start then all programmes, accessories, system tools to run defragmenter

Download, install and run
Tune Up 2006 Trial

Run Tune Up disc clean up

Run Tune Up registry clean up

Disable the anti virus programme then click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, the screen will lose colour during the process which can take a few minutes and then needs a reboot

Check the anti virus programme is running

Those will have cleared the drive of obsolete software errors

These are suggestions for making the most of the free trial

Click optimize and improve then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

Thank you for your help. The computer does load the pages of the internet much faster, but is still very slow. One of the suggestions about improving performance was increase ram and something else on that order. I am going to have to consider that.

But the internet is much improved. Thank you!!

Have a look at crucial.com

http://www.crucial.com/

Just to get an idea of the cost, manufacturer is motherboard, not PC

512MB is fine, 1GB covers most things, though ME may run well with between 256MB - 512MB

Thank You for letting me know
