You're going to need someone with an admin account to let you download and install the IM programs. My kids have limited accounts, so when they try to do something like that they have to call me in, and I log in with my password to authorize them or tell them to go get some fresh air and ride their bikes.

How do you connect to the internet? Cable? dsl? dial up? That invalid ip addy might just mean that your modem needs to renew its lease. Shut off the computer and unplug the modem. Wait a minute or two and then reboot. When you reach the Windows splash screen, plug the modem back in. (This will not work for dial up)

Is it possible that someone with an admin account blocked you from certain sites?

no sorry it doesnt work. i figured it out and its a side effect of limewire(P2P program). as soon as i have re-installed windows i wont be using limewire. also how can i reinstall windows XP? i already have it on my laptop and i DONT HAVE a cd drive. i have an external DVD drive. The Drive has several ports on the front (camera cards, USB Drive, ect.) My DVD drive is letter H:\. Does anyone know how i can install windows XP from when its already loaded up and logged in? would installing windows 98 first work?and then putting XP on top of that???

So your laptop does not have a valid XP cd with it, or a cd drive to use for a repair?
