Hi :whistling:

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Save it to your desktop.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Please run a scan with HijackThis and check the following lines for removal:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {9D81EC50-2F98-2064-9D89-062250857C9B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pylv.dll (file missing)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9D81EC50-2F98-2064-9D89-062250857C9B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pylv.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernels8.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [8c68ca34.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\8c68ca34.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [spoolsvv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsvv.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ahlpk] C:\WINDOWS\system32\?icrosoft\??chost.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [taskdir] C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskdir.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [8c68ca34.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\8c68ca34.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Registry Defender] "C:\Program Files\Registry Defender Trial\RegistryDefender.exe"
    O15 - Trusted IP range: http://192.168.235.185

Now close ALL other open windows except for HijackThis and hit FIX CHECKED. Exit HijackThis.

    Killbox
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\8c68ca34.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\8c68ca34.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskdir.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernels8.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

*note* you will be booting into safemode so when your computer begins to reboot Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
1) Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
2) Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
3) Login on your usual account.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Once in Safe mode

Show hidden files and folders
  • Click start >>> control panel
  • click the tools tab and then click folder options
  • Click view
  • tick the show hidden files and folders radio button
  • Uncheck hide extensions for known file types
  • Uncheck hide protected operating system files
  • Click Apply then Ok
navigate to and delete the following folders if present:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\STEM32~1 <<< this is the first 6 letters and numbers of the folder, the actual folder name will be longer

C:\WINDOWS\system32\?icrosoft <<<< The question mark can be anything. Open the folder and you will seethis file in it ??host.exe. That is the folder you need to delete. Also the date the folder was created will be around the time you were infected

Reboot and post a new Hijack log here

Thanks

  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report along with a new hijackthis log.

Hi :whistling:

Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Install.dat
    c:\progra~1\stem32~1

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

After the reboot

Please run a scan with HijackThis and check the following lines for removal:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: artm_newreg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\artm_new.dll (file missing)

Now close ALL other open windows except for HijackThis and hit FIX CHECKED. Exit HijackThis.

Rescan with hijack an post what should be our final log

Thanks

One pesky one to get

Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the white box below into a new text file. Save it as "delete.bat" WITH THE QUOTES and save it on your Desktop.

attrib -s -r -h "C:\PROGRA~1\STEM32~1\*.*"
rd /q /s "C:\PROGRA~1\STEM32~1"

after saving as instructed above, please close notepad. You should see a new file named delete.bat on your desktop. Don't do anything with it yet.

Killing a RunningProcess
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Open Process Manager"
  • Find and Click on C:\PROGRA~1\STEM32~1\taskmgr.exe
  • make sure it says taskmgr.exe at the end of it
  • Click on "Kill Process" button
  • Click Yes
Now double click the delete.bat file on your desktop.

Reboot and post one more log please

Thanks :whistling:
