Fatal exception errors, from TWAIN driver?

I've borrowed a friend's Canon Digital Rebel EOS camera for a wedding, and I really need to get the photos off of the memory cards. It seems the only way to get my Windows 98 to do this is to d/l the TWAIN driver from the Canon site, which I did. I got about 100 photos off of the first memory card two days ago, then came back to finish up with the other cards. To do this, I open Photoshop, then File > Import > Canon EOS Kiss Rebel 300D USB... and then a separate window opens with thumbnails of all the photos. I select the photos I want to import, then click File > Transfer images in that TWAIN window, and it's supposed to go about transferring the photos into Photoshop. Like I said, it worked perfectly right after I installed it two days ago, but suddenly, it does one of two things: 1) doesn't load the thumbnails at all (just a bunch of blank, grey squares), or 2) loads the thumbnails just fine, but locks up Photoshop when it tries to transfer the images.

Sometimes I get error messages about insufficient memory, and sometimes I get a blue screen that says, "A fatal exception OE has occurred at O16F:BFF9DFFF. The current application will be terminated." Most of the time I don't get anything, the Close Program dialog won't come up, nothing responds and I have to restart.

I really need to find some way of getting these photos off (I have about 900 +/- I have to transfer, so emailing or burning to CD from other computers is kind of a last resort) and frankly, I'm somewhat worried about all of the different error messages and the health of my machine in general.

Let me also add that I've run Spybot: S&D and avast!, as well as ScanDisk and nothing comes up as a problem.

HELP!!!! :whistling:

Uninstall/Re-install the twain driver?

Actually, I tried that, but I can't seem to get the driver to uninstall. Even after I uninstall it, it still shows up in Photoshop and still tries to connect to the camera.

Thanks anyway. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have try to upgrade my OS.
