Windows XP will not start successfully. I can't start in safe mode and I can't get to a command prompt.

PC Doctor does not recommend running a system recovery. I called HP (it's a Pavilion a1310n, if that matters) and they want me to send the hard drive in to them. Unfortunately, I bought the pc in the US but am currently sitting in Bangalore India. It would cost a fortune in duty taxes to send out the hard drive and they can't work on it here in India.

I can run software all day with no problem, but I'm no computer whiz when something goes wrong....can anybody tell me what would happen if I went ahead and ran the system recovery anyway?

Thanks!
