DVD playing issues

Hello all,

I have a problem with my dvd player on my laptop which becomes very jerky when I am trying to watch a DVD. We have tried intervideo, mediaplayer and realplayer but all have the same problem. It always seems to happen as the dvd is loading chapters and, as i can't get the dvds saved to disc (protected) it a real pain. Some DVDs work fine, some don't. Help please? We don't watch tv so we this is the only source of entertainment we really have when we need a good old fashioned 'veg' night in front of some mindless movie...
