IE6 redirect window won't open-not popup blocker

Help! When I click a link within a site that used to redirect to a new window, I now get a blank window and the target doesn't open. It hangs till I close the window
Right before this I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader 6-though I don't see how that could cause this.
W98SE/IE6 with plenty of memory. No changes made to firewall or security.
