I have the highly annoying oinadserver popups and wanted to post my hijackthis log. I'm new to this site and practicing due dligence, following the required steps before posting the log... now in the "Disk Cleanup" step, my computer has been "calculating how much space you will be able to free on C:" for over 2 hours. It has been showing 3 little green blips in the progress bar the whole time. How long should this take? Yes I do have a large disk , 80 Gig, with a lot of files including lots of photos and music. Properties of C drive shows 41 Gig used. But still, how long should "Disk Cleanup" take, and how does this differ from defrag? Thank you for your help.

1. Download this file :

http://download.blee...Bs/combofix.exe
http://www.techsuppo...ls/combofix.exe

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJack log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
=====================
Forget disk cleanup

DownLoad EasyCleaner http://www.majorgeek...ownload414.html

Use the clear files and Unnecessary files buttons – I do not recommend
using the Duplicates files button
as many dupes are there on purpose.

Not all files will delete – that is normal.

In the unnecessary button I check the top 4 entries

START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new log from normal NOT safe mode

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

Here is the HJT log. Not sure if you wanted to see a combofix log too. I was able to do everything you instructed with no problems. Should I empty (delete contents of\\) the C:|QooBox folder from the previous run?

thank you so much! so far so good, no popups in the few minutes since I've rebooted. You folks are wonderful... a very encouraging counterpoint to the insanity and mean-spirited-ness of the people who are propagating the malware... I cannot for the life of me understand the mentality and spirit behind it... anyway, thank you very sincerely.

Ok that was pretty simple. I've noticed 2 things since working on this fix, one good, one bad: 1(good) my pc (an HP notebook) seems to be booting up faster. 2(bad) Internet explorer is having an error and closing more often, with the box that says it's "encountered a problem" and needs to close, and would I like to send a message to Microsoft with info on the problem. I always select "don't send" but I am getting this error a lot now... really a lot. Any insight on this? Thanks.

I got the IE error just as I hit enter to post the previous entry, and a couple more times in the last hour. And now I got the error while using Ahead Nero to prepare to burn a CD (I'm going to offload photos to free up disk space and then do a defrag). The message was the same, something like "the application has encountered an error and needs to close" with the 2 buttons to send or Don't Send. I always select Don't Send. I am starting to think this is more malware causing this problem now. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

IE Fix - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm - Repair - http://www.theelderg.../repair_ie6.htm

DownLoad EasyCleaner http://www.majorgeek...ownload414.html

Use the clear files and Unnecessary files buttons – I do not recommend
using the Duplicates files button
as many dupes are there on purpose.

Not all files will delete – that is normal.

In the unnecessary button I check the top 4 entries

After these steps I still have bad things happening. IE frequently closes down with an error and Ahead Nero has numerous quirks. I'm thinking of uninstalling/reinstalling Ahead Nero, but don't know what to do about IE.

<<bad things happening>>

That does not tell me anything - be specific

Two separate issues:
1) Internet Explorer frequently closes down with the dialog box that says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close" or something close to that. It gives the send/don't send msg to MS buttons.

2) I also got this error once today when using Ahead Nero, and then after that, using Ahead Nero resulted in 3 problems:
1) after drag and drop of files to the left window (selection for the burn), files were reordered randomly
2) progress bar at bottom for how much space on the target disk would be available, is way off. After dragging 500 MB of files over, it indicated much less, around 200.
3) After performing the burn, the target disk is unreadable or has nothing on it although it shows in properties it's 100% used.

Hi, thanks, I understand about Nero, since that's so application-specific. I've already done the EasyCleaner steps several times and that's not helping with the IE error I get. Are there any other steps I can try?

Once again, as soon as I clicked to post my reply, I got the very error I've been talking about. I did some cutting and pasting this time. I looked closer this time and noticed there was a link at the bottom for additional technical info, which I'm copying here after the copy of the error message text:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1217 Offset: 00033905
