notepad can not be found any longer on my system. I would like to re-install it but do not know how to do so.

I believe notepad is not on my system because if I create a new .txt document then right click on it and select Open With, notpad is not in the list of options.

You can run a search for notepad.exe if you think it's gone. It should be located in your c:\windows folder. When you select Open with... click on the browse button and see if you can find the Notepad.exe program in your windows folder.
