I recently installed Symantec SystemWorks 2002 on to our work computer, ran Norton Disk Doctor in Windows 2000, this program then gave a message along the lines of it having detected strange/erroneous partition information.
I was afraid it was referring to my precious SuSe Linux Pro 7.1 partition, so instructed Disk Doctor to ignore this, and to remember to ignore this in future.
The other day, I put my LILO boot floppy into the a: drive and presto! It doesn't work anymore, the cursor flashes and the two letters 'LI' appear and nothing else happens.
I booted up with my Windows 98 boot disc, ran fdisk just to check if the partition information was the same.
It was not. The linux partition had previously been reported as non-dos, but was now being reported as an extended dos partition.
Has anybody else come across this before?
Is there a way of protecting my Linux partition from the vandalous nature of disk maintenance programs, such as Norton Disk Doctor?
I'm going to uninstall Norton Disk Doctor, reinstall my Linux partition and get on to Symantec, but I just wondered if any one else has encountered this kind of problem before and what steps if any, can be done to avoid it?
