I have a compaq presario, the computer originaly had windows 98 and has been updated to windowsME I do not have any of the disks for windows because the computer is used. I only have 16 colors and would like to have better color. The computer has the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) Diplay Adapter
I am not sure what other information is needed for you to assist me with this problem. If there is more info. that is needed let me know and I will look for it. Thank you for your help. :tazz:

The standard vga can only give you 16 colours. This is what Windows uses when it doesn't have the proper software for your graphics chip. It uses it's own standard vga driver (software) because otherwise you would not get a picture at all. Download a free utility to identify your graphics hardware from here (Everest Home Edition): http://www.lavalys.c...ang=en&pageid=1

Install it, run it. The make and model of your graphics chip will be listed.
Go to the manufacturer's website and download/install the correct driver.
Then go to Control Panel to set up the number of colours and the resolution.

Jen,

I believe that your display adapter is an integrated video adapter....and your model specfied seems to point that way too.

HP bought Compaq and should have the video driver appropriate for your machine. Go here, and put in your model number and it should direct you to the appropriate videodriver
