mmsystem.dll is missing in boot section of system ini. result is no sound i think ?
Also when i run msconfig it comes up environment variables were found in the legacy files AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS and the variables were moved to the windows registry.

Can anyone help ? All responses would be greatly appreciated .

If I am reading that right, go to device manager, select your soundcard and remove it...reboot, with the windows cd in the cd-rom.

That will reinstall your mmsystem.dll and associated settings

You can open autoexec.bat and config.sys in notepad and delete everything you find in it, then save it as a blank file -- or rename autoexec.bat and config.sys as autoexec.bak and config.bak

Thes files are not used by windows me, but are only there if you still need an old DOS program

THANKS very much it fixed the variables in the registry but still no sound . When I look in device manager all my sound card drivers say they are working properly, but when i look in my sounds and multimedia it says that my audio for voice modem serial wave device and my audio for vortex wave audio drivers are enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem ...
