Downloadable video software that can do split-screen F/X?

Hey, neither Ulead or Windows (to my knowledge) can do a simple split-screen effect -- that is the cropping of two videos to join them together and make one video with, say, TWO OF ME, in it.

Anyone know of a downloadable program that does this?

I'M NOT LOOKING TO SPLIT VIDEO FILES.

I downloaded a shareware version of something called Magix but it won't let save videos unless you pay 50 bucks...and, although the program is great, that's just too much for me right now.

Ideas/links would be much appreciated!!
