Hello! I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to Vista, which was surprisingly much easier than I thought it would be. I have two hard drives, both with 40gb partitions - so I've got four 40gb partitions. I installed Vista on the C drive (1st partition of drive 1) and had already installed XP Home on drive E (1st partition of drive 2) and XP Pro (2nd parition of drive 2). I then installed Vista successfully, got all the updates etc, then rebooted my computer - and was given the new-look boot menu, to boot into Vista or 'older versions of Windows'(or something to that effect) - I chose Vista and everything booted fine. The next day, after I had used Vista all night, I needed to get some info on my XP installation, so I rebooted and selected the older versions of Windows option, and XP automatically loaded. Then I got the stuff I needed written down, rebooted and was given the older boot menu, with the only options given XP Home and XP Pro - no Vista?! So I booted into XP Home, checked the drives in My Computer - still present, so I opened drive C and all the Vista files are still there - I just can't seem to get the menu to boot into the drive?! How can I get my Vista back?! Thank you to anyone who can help

Which install was the boot manager in before Pro and maybe it took back over when you booted into XP. I have heard of some people using vista boot pro to take charge of dual boots

Hello. I am not quite grasping what it is you're saying, although the problem has partially been solved re-formatting and starting again. Thanks for your help anyway

Hi Spider-Man...

Vista doesn't use the boot.ini file as XP did...instead, it uses the Boot Configuration Data store or BCD. In order to change the boot configuration, this file must be edited...not an easy task for the inexperienced. VistaBoot Pro is one of a handful of BCD editors that will allow you to do these edits using a user friendly graphical interface.
