Brand new Dell with Vista premium, 2GB DDR, Pentium 4, 80gig H/D. Have only loaded one game (COH) and the software installation package for the Cannon printer/scanner (in that order). Immediately after loading the Cannon, the machine became pathetically slow. Horrible. Even the typing is delayed. Restart does nothing. What the...?

It sure seems like the Canon driver is the issue. Uninstall it. Was there a specific Vista driver available? Microsoft does not, and can not write drivers for hardware that's up to each manufacturer. Unfortunately, many mfgs would rather sell new hardware instead of updating drivers.

Thanks. Dumb questions:

Won't I be unable to use the printer then?

Do I simply "uninstall" everything that came with the printer software?

Finally, is there a vista solution for this that anyone knows of?

just had the same issue. INstalled Canon MP530 all-in-one MFD, then the Vista premiu, brand new PC immediately slowed to molasses pace. Uninstalled the printer, yet stiill acted slow. Went into task manager, stopped the process on the OCR... process, which might have been part of the scanning piece of the printer installed, and the PC IMMEDIATELY returned to normal speed. guess when uninstalled printer, it DID NOT remove the OCR process??

Hmmm. But then how do we use our MP530 with Vista for scanning and printing if we uninstall? Is there a Vista solution for this problem?

still in the process of testing...next step is to reinstall the MP530 and see if the slowdown re-appears. more to come later...

There are Vista-compatible downloads on the Canon site. I'm trying those.

You have to hunt carefully for all the crap the Canon disc installed, but it does work. With any luck, you didn't install anything else that day so you can identify them all in the uninstall window by date.

I then obtained Vista-compatible software from canon.com, and it's printing fine. Speed back to normal. Next, I need to load the scanning software.
